The Global calendar we are using now is the Gregorian
calendar in which days, months are calculated based on the rotation of the sun.
Therefore, it is also called Solar calendar. The Gregorian calendar is the most
widely used Civil calendar. It is named after Pope Gregory XIII who introduced
it in 1582. Before that every culture and community had its own calendar. All
these calendars had beginning of their months, days, years and festivals. Midst
of every culture, the earth has its own beginning, then there should be a
calendar having correct calculation of days, months, years from the beginning.
How can we find that calendar from all of these? Yes, we can find—Among these
calendars, there is one unique calendar that has calculated the days, years from
the creation of the world, the days, months, years exactly. It’s none other
than the ‘Hebrew calendar’ or the ‘Jewish calendar’!
How is the Jewish calendar different from the current
Gregorian calendar?
The Jewish people have their own calendar because God decide
that certain times of the year are important to Him and so Back at the time of
Moses, God established certain times of the year He wanted in His calendar.
If we look to the Global calendar, every nation has time
that they feel very important like—it might be the birthday of a President or a
remembrance of the fallen soldiers in a war or even history. Some calendars have
the birthday of their gods. Every nation marks what they think, is important on
their calendar. But what really is important is what our Creator God said is
important in His calendar! And so the Jewish people faithfully represent God’s
calendar all through thousands of these years.

God created the two great lights –the Sun and the Moon for
signs and seasons and for the days and nights. The Hebrew calendar is based on
the rotation of the moon and the seasons. According to the Israelites' tradition,
the children of Israel after delivered from the Egypt, were to be sanctified
their youth thereby causing the fledging nation to depart from the Solar
tradition of the Egyptian’s Ra (Sun God) worship (The Egyptians
worshipped many gods like sun, frog, cats, birds, crocodiles, etc. …which
are just creations not the Creator!). And to look onto the moon for the new
means of reckoning times and seasons.
Is the current Jewish calendar being the same as the days of
Moses? Yeah the modern Jewish calendar is very similar to that, however certain
extra things are added to this, because these have been events and history that
are so dynamic for their survival. In History, we can see, there were enemies
who raised to destroy them and God miraculously saved them, so that day became
a new holiday. For example, the Feast
of Purim is included after God delivered them from the hands of evil Haman
and the Persian empire. Apart from these holidays, this calendar is similar to
the old one.
