Israel Memorial Day
Yom HaZikaron (Israel Memorial Day) begins tonight on April 27 2020. At 8:00 p.m., less than an hour after the sun sets here in Israel, the flag will be lowered to half staff and the siren will sound for an entire minute throughout the Holy Land. Its mournful cry is the sound of national grief as Israelis remember the precious souls of more than 23,800 Jewish people who lost their lives protecting the Holy Land or as a result of terrorism from 1890 to the present. Tomorrow morning, a second siren will sound at 11:00 a.m. for two minutes, marking the beginning of official ceremonies in the military cemeteries. "As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you; and you will be comforted over Jerusalem."
